SYSTEM OF A DOWN Drummer: 'I'm Staying True To My Nerd Roots'
June 27, 2006SYSTEM OF A DOWN drummer John Dolmayan told the Calgary Sun that he plans to launch an Internet-based comic-book company when the band goes on hiatus after this year's Ozzfest winds down. "It's my other passion — I love music, and comics are what I've also been into since I was a kid," explained Dolmayan. "I'm a nerd, man. I'm staying true to my nerd roots."
During SYSTEM OF A DOWN's long hiatus, the group's guitarist, Daron Malakian, will be launching a new band called SCARS ON BROADWAY and plans to work on their debut album this fall. Malakian told Billboard.com that SYSTEM bassist Shavo Odadjian is likely to be part of the group.
Odadjian is also planning to collaborate musically with the WU-TANG CLAN.
Ozzfest kicks off in Seattle on June 29 and will wrap up on August 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida. SYSTEM OF A DOWN is co-headlining most of the trek with DISTURBED, with OZZY OSBOURNE topping the bill on selected dates.
The latest single from SYSTEM OF A DOWN's "Hypnotize" album is "Kill Rock 'N' Roll".
